How a Video Consultation Works

Face to face over a computer, tablet or smartphone, a GP can diagnose and offer a treatment plan for the most common reasons that people visit the doctor.

Much the same as an in-person visit to a GP, the doctor will note your medical history, observe you physically, and listen to you describe your symptoms in order to make a diagnosis and treatment plan.

The process of booking and experiencing a video consultation with a doctor online includes the following:

1: You book an appointment through your computer, tablet, or smartphone. A doctor will be able to see you within the same day, wherever you are.

2: At your appointment, you will have a consultation with the doctor. This includes

  1. Reviewing your medical history
  2. Observation of your behaviour and visible appearance by the doctor
  3. A back and forth discussion with your doctor about your symptoms

3: The doctor will create a treatment plan for you. This may involve:

  1. A prescription, which can be faxed to the pharmacy of your choice
  2. A medical certificate for work
  3. A referral to a specialist

What Can Be Treated Through an Online Video Consultation?

Most of the commonest reasons for visiting the GP can be treated online through a video consultation. This includes:

  • Chest infections, Colds and Flu
  • Kidney infections, cystitis and UTIs
  • Stress and mental health queries
  • Sore throats
  • General medical advice
  • Upset Stomach, diarrhoea, and vomiting
  • Eye issues
  • Travel advice and some medications
  • Sports injuries

If your condition is not treatable via online video consultation, the doctor will advise you go to your local GP for physical examination or will refer you on to a specialist.
